Smartphones Will be Smarter Than Humans By 2017, enough to perform tasks as a ‘Secret Digital Agent’

About
the only thing a smartphone of the future may not be able to flaunt is
the 00 suffix that is the prerogative of secret agents of MI6. Should it
worry the mobile phone makers? Why should it? Smartphones are most
likely to be smarter than 007 in four short years in 2017.
Cloud Computing Makes it Possible
The
possibilities are endless. The owners of smartphones will lose their
privacy to their phones which will predict their next and the subsequent
moves. Or, what they are going to purchase on a shopping trip. Who
knows they can even judge what's hiding inside that 40 ft shipping containers used for storage.
Why, they may even correctly interpret the owner’s actions. This
information, found in the new Gartner report, may not startle too many
customers who have witnessed the incredible advances science has made.
This is labeled as the next step that personal cloud computing has
taken.
What a Smartphone can do

Unless
a smartphone owner is jealous of his own phone being smarter than him,
he can easily slip into the role of a proud owner of such a device. The
research vice president at Gartner, Carolina Milanesi, has emphasized this point on Tuesday at its symposium/ITxpo 2013 in progress in Barcelona.
She
says that your phone will determine the volume of traffic on the roads
that you are going to take in order to meet your boss and wake you up
early. If it is a friend or colleague, an apology will be dispatched to
him. The phone will take parameters like its calendar, personal data,
location of the owner and its sensors into consideration to arrive at a
logical answer to many a question.
The Owner’s Decision
Is it all
that necessary for someone to change over to smartphone from his mobile
phone? A mobile phone has cameras, sensors and intelligence gathering
based on location, all simple actions. A smartphone goes several steps
further to connect the above said features to several sophisticated
functions which go a long way in improving the owner’s experience with
it. The advanced technology and the apps enable it to do this.
The initial Tasks
However, it
is not going to be an overnight development. That explains the time
frame of 4 years mentioned at the outset. The very first tasks will
include mundane activities like sending birthday or anniversary
greetings, putting together a to-do list, making an appointment with
your physician or replying to e-mails. It is for the consumers to try
new apps once they gain confidence in their smartphones. Aptly named
‘The Era of Cognizant Computing”, it will dawn when the consumers
choose to install more and more apps that will encompass a majority of
their daily activities.
Cognizant Computing
It is not
all going to be a smooth passage for smartphones to become “secret
digital agents” for, after all, they could only reflect on the
appropriate action based on what the owner has fed into them. The
cognizant computing will comprise of storing digital assets in sync with
contexts, identifying the locations of visit in virtual or real world,
understanding the wants and moods of the owner and finally act according
to the explicit rules in place.
